Christmas Creativity

Dan Bracken

The creative visual team at Ginghamsburg had some fun with our Advent theme this year. We were given the title “Love Collision” and the story of the Shepherds from the book of Luke. Here’s how we processed and translated that information:

Working on the project was fun, but I was uncertain how our audience would respond. We automated our process, and randomized our output just enough to render thousands of design variations. We created motion backgrounds, Facebook covers, scripture templates, posters and bulletin covers. We collaborated with the lighting team and the preachers expanded the prism metaphor in their teaching. We picked out a pre-celebration list of music to match, and the first weekend you walked in, it felt like walking into an igloo. It was awesome when my wife walked in for the first time and actually said, “whoa, it feels like I’m in an igloo”. Not totally what we were going for, but the shoe fit. In the end, we had created an abstract, dancing, glimmering and filled-with-wonder environment that we were all proud of.

Most importantly, we had created a unique “Love Collision” experience for anyone looking for an encounter with the divine.

I hope you have tapped into that same wonder this Christmas. When your ordinary idea collides with the divine, expect a spark of the miraculous. Embrace the season!
